For 25 years, InnovaWood has connected and strengthened the European wood research, innovation and education community. This year’s General Assembly, held from 5 to 7 May 2026 in Tulln, Austria and hosted by Wood K Plus and BOKU, brought together 100 participants from 75 organisations across 25 countries, including 14 non-member guests. We were particularly happy to welcome 20 young researchers as part of our new initiative to foster the next generation of wood researchers. An additional 10 participants joined us online.

This year’s assembly centered on resource efficiency: exploring innovative wood transformation technologies, valorising underused wood resources, and potential of carbon-negative wood products.

Beyond the insightful keynotes and workshops, pitch and networking sessions, the assembly created many opportunities for discussion and collaboration. Conversations continued through the visits to laboratories of BOKU and Holzforschung Austria, the gardens of Tulln and wood construction sites, reflecting a shared interest in wood research, innovation, and education.

We kindly thank our hosts Christian Hansmann, Wood K Plus,  Wolfgang Gindl-Altmutter,  Wood K Plus / BOKU, for their hospitality, and Višnja Košćak,  Holzcluster Steiermark for her support in organizing  visits in Vienna. We look forward to seeing the conversations and partnerships from Tulln continue to develop. Save the date for the 2027 General Assembly in Brasov, Romania, 11-13 May 2027.
