Closing the loop on post-consumer fibreboards

EcoReFibre Animation

At InnovaWood, we engage in cross-discipline collaborations to transform complex ideas into clear and engaging stories for our online and offline audiences. On this occasion, we completed a successful collaboration with Manpaard animation studio in the making of the EcoReFibre animation, drawing on the findings of the European fibreboard industry and recycling sector, with the main goal of giving a second life and value to post-consumer wood waste.

Several members of the InnovaWood communications team were involved in the making of the animation: Oliver, for proofing wood-expertise sectorial knowledge; Florence, for a strategic perspective within this EU project; and Eva, InnovaWood’s Creative Manager, with experience in media and creative processes, who led the creation process with the Manpaard team. At InnovaWood, adept at dealing with complex information and processes, we generally operate by a four-eyes principle; in this case, this was increased to six.

At InnovaWood, relationships with contractors are not only about who does it, but very much about how it’s done. For this project, we chose partners who not only shared our values but could critically contribute to shaping the script, storyboards, and visual style, beyond delivering illustrations. Fast and plentiful feedback loops and discussions helped tackle complex topics more efficiently. Furthermore, with 20 diverse EcoReFibre partners involved in this Horizon Europe project, navigating feedback and involving partners is a serious undertaking. Generally, there were two iterative feedback loops: first internally, then with the wider consortium.

The animation complements EcoReFibre’s most recent outcomes and latest publication, Strategic Roadmap: Unlocking Circularity and Market Potential from Wood Waste, a comprehensive resource mapping the path towards circular wood use in Europe, highlighting current developments, research and innovation, as well as policy recommendations for wood and fibre recycling.

Between writing, fact-checking, navigating feedback on a complex theme, and summarizing a couple of years of project results in less than 2.5 minutes, keeping the momentum is underrated. Deadlines, consistency, and follow-ups all help. So does patience on both sides of the collaboration. The result, in the end, is something built not by one person or one organisation, but by a network of people who each contributed something, whether a technical correction, a creative instinct, or simply the willingness to watch another version and give an honest opinion. That, in many ways, is what InnovaWood does. We are proud to see this beautiful end result today.
