From 30th September to 1st October 2024, InnovaWood participated in the 8th edition of the International Scientific Conference on Hardwood Processing (ISCHP), held in Coimbra, Portugal. Organized by the University of Coimbra and SerQ, the conference brought together experts from academia, research, and industry to discuss the use of hardwood species in construction.
Vanesa Baño, representing InnovaWood, presented partial findings from the RESONATE research project. The work titled “State of the art of hardwood production in Europe and Spain and the challenges for a hardwoods-based sector in Galicia (NW ES)” was developed in collaboration with XERA and Universidad de Helsinki.
Additionally, InnovaWood co-authored other two studies in partnership with SerQ, Universidade de Coimbra, and Cesefor: Experimental assessment of glulam beams made by Spanish beech, and Elastic constants for finite element modelling of beech and poplar. Vanesa also moderated the Session I.2: Species, properties, markets, and quality, contributing to discussions on hardwood applications and market trends.
Keynote speakers included: Pierre Blanchet (A decade review on hardwood composites and their research developments), Jan-Willem van de Kuillen (Hardwoods in engineering: properties, grading, and applications), and Pieter Rozema (Machine strength grading with machine-controlled and output-controlled settings).
Partners and members of our network, such as BOKU, CIRAD, ESB, FRAUNHOFER, GHENT UNIVERSITY, INNORENEW, WOODKPLUS, UNIVERSITY OF EASTERN FINLAND, LULEA UNIVERSITY OF TECHNOLOGY, LUKE, SLU, TALLTECH, TUDELFT, TUM, UNIVERSITY OF LJUBLJANA, and UNIVERSITY OF ROSENHEIM also took part in the conference.
